About
Sara Aslam Noorani paints the world as it feels rather than as it looks. A remembered garden returns with its colours transposed: trees in cobalt, a sky of saturated red, blossom burning coral against cyan. The places are ordinary, a swing, a grove, guinea fowl crossing a path, and that is the point. Memory does not keep things as they were; it keeps them brighter.
Her night paintings hold the opposite register. Built stroke by stroke on black, they are gardens that keep their own light: turquoise islands, a boat with shipped oars, paths that know the way home. They read less like views than like states of mind, places assembled from everywhere she has loved.
Alongside the paintings she carves linocut blocks by hand and pulls them in small editions, dense black line in place of colour, patient and quietly funny where the subject allows; one edition follows an inflatable unicorn far out to sea.
She lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan. Her solo presentation, The Geography of Memory, opens at Tagh’eer Lahore Creative Space on 4 September 2026 and runs to the 18th.
